In The Spotlight

Jess Miller
School: Lehigh University
Sport: Field Hockey
Major: Psychology

Jess Miller is a senior and co-captain field hockey goalkeeper at Lehigh University. Along with her Psychology major, she is also in a 5 year Master's program for Elementary Education. Her career goal is to teach in an Elementary school in an area of low income or to continue doing work for non-profits.

Jess was selected to be in the spotlight for her hard work and passion while fundraising at Lehigh in the past several months. They have many fundraising events in the works taking place to raise money for SALSC's mission in Ecuador.  Jess will be one of the people on our travel team in June helping us implement everything we have raised money to support.

When we first read Jess's application to become a part of SALSC, we knew right away how passionate she was and how much of an impact on the world she was already striving to achieve.  Jess is a member of the C.O.A.C.H. board at Lehigh University, standing for Community Outreach by Athletes who Care about Helping. She is on the committee for the Adopt-A-Family program at Lehigh as well.  She is involved in many other groups and clubs at Lehigh all with the focus of making a difference.

Below is what Jess had to say about why she wanted to be a part of SALSC.

"I believe that every person has a purpose in life. From the time I was young, I’ve known that my purpose in life is to make the world a better place. Until the last year or two of my life, I was not exactly sure how I could accomplish my dreams of changing the world. However, recently I have been extremely fortunate to come across people and organizations who share my passion and dreams for doing something that many people would call too idealistic or impossible. SALSC represents everything that I feel I represent. I am a passionate leader who has committed her life to helping others and making the world a better, kinder place. I believe that being part of such a passionate group like SALSC will be the perfect way for me to accomplish the things I have always dreamed of doing (going to an underdeveloped country and giving my time, skills, and love to the people who deserve it so much). This is one of the greatest opportunities I have ever been presented with, and I am committed to doing all that I can to improve this program and make as big of an impact in the world as I can."

Thanks for your continued passion to changing the world, Jess.  We are so happy to have you as a part of our team!
